Darlington’s centenary camp took place at the County’s ‘Moor House Activity Centre’ over the weekend of 13th - 15th May. With lots going on to keep the 350+ campers occupied.
This weekend saw the first occasion Beavers have stayed overnight on District Camp, with two parties each spending one night at the camp; with their arrival and departure times arranged so that they were all on site for the Saturday activities and their lunchtime hike.
Thankfully, weather forecast predictions for heavy showers throughout the whole weekend proved groundless, with only a couple of light showers while setting up on the Friday, and an occasional spot of rain during Saturday and Sunday.
During the Saturday the camp made full use of the range of activities available at Moor House, including climbing, abseiling, archery, air rifle shooting, go karts, grass sledges, trampolines, etc. With the evening being filled by a campfire, disco and film show.
Sunday morning was taken up with the running of the District Tug of War, with a team from the 12th winning, and a Scout push cart race.
A big thanks must go to the catering team for their tremendously hard work throughout the weekend, and to the volunteers from outside of Darlington who gave their time to man activities on the Saturday.
