Darlington’s St George’s parade took place on the afternoon of Sunday 8th May, with the date of the service having been put back due to Easter.
Flag bearers and readers were there for the rehearsal before the service; making certain that everyone was in their right place and that those speaking could be heard throughout the church.
As normal, the District paraded in front of the Town Hall before walking the short distance across to St Cuthbert’s Church.
The service was quite well attended, with a number of parents staying, and the church looked quite full.
We were joined at this year’s service by the mayor of Darlington, Bryan Thistlethwaite, and the County Commissioner Jeff Ledger.
Rev Williamson gave the sermon, as usual designed to keep the interest of the young people.
During the service Jeff Ledger presented wood beads and long service awards.
Later in the service he also presented Terry Murray with the Bar to the Silver Acorn, which he was awarded in the Scout Association’s ‘St George’s Day Awards.’
