A young leader is someone of the explorer scout age range (14 - 18th birthday) who want to work as a young leader with a section of a scout group - beavers, cubs or scouts.

A young leader spends most of their Scouting time with the section they are working with, but also meet as a young leader unit once a month and also receive young leader training.

There is nothing to stop a young leader also being a member of a normal explorer unit and taking part in the full explorer programme.
