The 11th Darlington Scout Group recently enjoyed an unforgettable sleepover at Beamish Museum, taking along our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts for a fantastic adventure.
There was something for everyone to enjoy. Throughout the visit, our young people took part in a wide range of hands-on activities, including making a Morse code machine, making traditional ice cream, exploring the mine, and discovering all that Beamish has to offer.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a hike around the outskirts of the museum before joining three other Cub packs for a traditional campfire. We sang plenty of campfire songs before warming up with hot chocolate and biscuits in the Tearoom – a perfect way to end the evening.
Sleeping overnight in the historic Masonic Hall was a real experience, and, of course, no visit to Beamish would be complete without enjoying their famous fish and chips!
A special moment came when Tristan Batten invested several new Cubs and Beavers on board a historic Beamish bus. In true Tristan style, he also “invested” the bus itself!
We are incredibly proud of every one of our young people. Their behaviour was outstanding throughout the weekend, and they showed the utmost respect to the Beamish staff, volunteers and our leaders. They were a real credit to Scouting.
A huge thank you to all the fantastic staff at Beamish Museum, who were friendly, welcoming, organised and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Everyone had an amazing time, and we’re already looking forward to our next adventure!
