21st Darlington Cubs Visit the Great North Air Ambulance

This week, the 21st Darlington Cubs were lucky enough to visit the Great North Air Ambulance and learn more about the vital work they do across the region. The Cubs discovered the different roles of each crew member on board the helicopter, the wide area they cover, and the significant cost of keeping the service operational — an incredible £25,000 per day, or £9.6 million each year.

A paramedic took time to speak to the Cubs and answer their questions, giving them a real insight into what it’s like to work on the air ambulance. We then headed over to the hangar to see the Pride of Cumbria II helicopter. Although we weren’t able to go inside, the Cubs enjoyed having a close look, asking plenty of questions, and learning more about how the helicopter helps save lives.

It was a fascinating and inspiring visit, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the Great North Air Ambulance team for giving up their time to show us around and share their experiences.
