What started as a soggy walk around Hurworth quickly turned into a fantastic day of adventure, teamwork, and plenty of laughter during this year’s DDOTTY (District Hike 2026).

Despite the wet weather, more than 200 walkers took part in the 3.5-mile circular hike, with everyone from Squirrels to Scouts and Explorer Scouts joining the challenge. Spirits remained high throughout the day as participants tackled muddy paths, curious cows, and some impressively large puddles along the route.

Of course, no muddy hike would be complete without a bit of fun — and two leaders fully embraced the conditions by jumping straight into the puddles to the amusement of everyone watching!

After completing the hike, participants were welcomed back with a fundraising stall offering cakes and refreshments, all in support of the upcoming Poland Jamboree trip. The stall proved to be a great success and a perfect way to round off the day.

While the weather may not have been what we hoped for, the enthusiasm and determination shown by everyone made the event a huge success. Most importantly, everyone enjoyed themselves, supported one another, and created some brilliant memories along the way.
