The Squirrels from the 27th Darlington Scout Group recently set off on an exciting and meaningful adventure, combining learning with kindness in their local community.

Their visit to Sainsbury’s wasn’t just an ordinary shopping trip. It was an opportunity for the young members to discover where food comes from and to develop important life skills, such as following a shopping list and working together as a team. As they explored the aisles, the Squirrels carefully searched for each item, learning along the way about different types of food and how we make everyday choices when shopping.

What made the experience even more special was what came next. After successfully completing their shopping task, the Squirrels chose to donate all the food they had purchased to King’s Church Foodbank. Their generous contribution will help support individuals and families in the local area who need it most.

This activity was a wonderful example of learning in action—building confidence, encouraging teamwork, and showing the importance of helping others. The Squirrels should be incredibly proud of what they achieved, and they’ve certainly made a positive impact in their community.
