District Young People Take on DofE and Expedition Challenge in the Summer Heat
What a fantastic weekend of adventure and achievement!
Young people from across the district came together to take part in their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition and Expedition Challenge Badge. The teams included Explorers from Central, Archdeacon and Harrowgate Hill, alongside Scouts from the 18th and 19th Scout Groups.
With temperatures soaring throughout the weekend, participants faced an extra challenge as they navigated their routes carrying full expedition packs. While there were a few navigational mishaps along the way, everyone showed determination, resilience and great teamwork to overcome the obstacles they encountered.
The young people demonstrated impressive independence throughout the expedition, planning their journeys, cooking their own meals and camping overnight with only remote supervision from leaders. These experiences are at the heart of Scouting, helping to develop confidence, problem-solving skills and self-reliance.
Despite the heavy bags, hot weather and tired feet, every participant should be incredibly proud of what they achieved. Their positive attitude and commitment ensured a successful and memorable expedition for all involved.
A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to the leaders and volunteers who supported the event behind the scenes. We look forward to seeing these young people continue their Scouting and DofE journeys in the months ahead
