It was certainly a weekend of adventure for the Elm Ridge, Harrogate Hill and Seaham Explorers, who headed into the Cheviots to take on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award qualifying expedition and Gold DofE practice expedition.
Over the course of the weekend, the Explorers faced long days on the hills, covering plenty of miles across some challenging terrain. They experienced a little bit of everything the Cheviot weather could offer, from glorious sunshine to periods of rain, but they kept going and supported each other throughout.
For those completing their Silver qualifying expedition, it was a fantastic opportunity to put their navigation, teamwork and expedition skills into practice. Meanwhile, the Gold participants used the weekend as valuable preparation for the challenges ahead.
Despite the long walks, tired legs and changeable weather, they all did absolutely amazing. Their determination, resilience and teamwork were fantastic to see, and they should all be extremely proud of what they achieved.

Of course, activities like this simply don’t happen without the dedication of our volunteers.
A massive thank you to the two Davids and the whole team for giving up their time, getting out on the hills and supporting our Explorers throughout the weekend.
Their commitment means that our young people can experience real adventure, take on challenges, learn new skills and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.
Without them, there would have been no activity — and no expedition.
So, to all the Explorers: well done! And to our fantastic volunteer team: thank you for making it possible.
